Agra is the one of the prominent destinations of the World Tourism map with
three heritage monuments - The Taj Mahal, Red Fort & Fatehpur Sikri.
It is more just a dacadent city of graveyards and stones, but it is a vibrant
centre of Culture, Art and Religious philosphies that have enriched mankind
and shaped humen thought over centuries.
Dalhousie Standing at the foot of the spectacular Dhauladhar range of the
Himalayas, is the popular hill station of Dalhousie, that covers an area
of around 14 sq.km, and is sprawled over five hills Kathlog, Portreyn, Moti
Tibba (formerly known as Tehra), Bakrota and Balun. A resort that still
exudes an old worldly charm, Dalhousie has retained much of the British
Raj style.
The first city of Delhi, Lal Kot was founded by the Tomar ruler Anangpal,
in the 11th century. It was extended to Qila Rai Pithora by King Vigraharaja
IV (Circa 1153-64). Qutbuddin Aibak became Delhi's first Sultan in 1206
and laid the foundations of the Qutb Minar, India's tallest stone tower
at the site of the first city of Delhi subsequently the kings of the Sultanate
dynasties, Khaljis, Tughluqs Sayyids and Lodis continued to build. New cities
as Delhi grew.
Dharamshala is the district hqr. of Kangra district. This is a hill station
lying on the spur of the Dhauladhar range about 18kms. north east of Kangra
town. Hill station is wooded with oak and conifer trees and snow capped
mountains enfold three sides of the town while the valley stretches in front.
Gulmarg is surrounded by dense forests of tall conifers ,Gulmarg is known
for unparalled beauty nad is rated as one of the matchless tourist spots
of the world.It is famous for Golf hikes and boasts of a beautiful highland
golf course. It is premier resort for winter sports in the country.The meadow
of Flowers is a world famous tourist spot in the Baramulla Distt of Kashmir.
The altitude of Gulmarg is 2730 meters.
Kullu got its first motorable access only after independence. The long centuries
of seclusion have however allowed the area to retain a considerable measures
of its traditional charm. Here is the core of an intricate web of numerous
valleys each of which is a visual delight and seems more than the other.
Ladakh is a land like no other. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest
mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies athwart two
other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range.
One day Varvasvata, the seventh incarnation of Manu found a tiny fish in
his bathing water. The fish told him to look after it with devotion for
one day it would do him a great service. The seventh Manu carded for the
fish till day it grew so huge that he released it into the sea.
Shimla is the State Capital of Himachal Pradesh, with its population around
1.6 lacs (Shimla town). It was the Summer Capital of India under the British
rule. Shimla has witnessed many important historical events, such as the
famous Shimla Pact between India & Pakistan, which was signed here.
The place is also famous for its natural beauty, architectural buildings,
wooden crafts and apples.
Srinagar district is situated in the centre of Kashmir Valley, is surrounded
by five districts.In the north it is flanked by Kargil,in the South by Pulwama,in
the north-west by Budgam.
Varanasi, or Banaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living
cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually
unrivalled. Mark Twain, the English author and literateur, who was enthralled
by the legend and sanctity of Banaras, once wrote : "Banaras is older
than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice
as old as all of them put together".
"No city-except Bombay, the queen of all-was more beautiful in her
garish style than Lucknow," wrote Rudyard Kipling in Kim. Located on
the banks of the Gomti River, Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
From ancient times, the city is known for its silks, perfumes, jewellery,
mouth-watering cuisines, and nawabi etiquettes. In fact, Lucknow could be
termed the cultural centre of northern India where people are so polite
that anyone would feel at home. The classic example of 'pehle aap' (after
you) shows how etiquette or tehjib runs in the blood of the people of Lucknow.
But the city is very much able in accommodating the modernity, keeping the
tradition and culture alive altogether.
Allahabad finds mention in the holy scriptures-the Vedas and the grand epics,
the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and in the Puranas-as Prayag. Hindu mythology
has it that Lord Brahma, the creator, chose a piece land on earth, on which
the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati would flow into a quiet confluence.
For close on 900 years from the middle of the 10th century, Ladakh was an
independent kingdom , its dynasties descending from the king of old Tibet.
Its political fortunes ebbed and flowed over the centuries, and the kingdom,
was at its greatest in the early 17th century under the famous king Sengge
Namgyal, whose rule extended across Spiti and western Tibet up to the Mayumla
beyond the sacred sites of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar.
